This move does not, despite Hollywood's many promises, successfully knock the guy out. But it's a large, heavy object, and Erica in a panic opted for 'force over subtlety' so it certainly knocks him over, and the wind out of him. This becomes obvious when he attempts to gasp something out, and manages only a pained wheeze.
